Caring for Our Place: Making a Home

Our plans for our home on Northumberland Street are a decade in the making, but we aren't chasing perfection; we are chasing belonging. We aren't just renovating a building; we are crafting a hub that reflects the people who use it. For a long time we thought things needed to be perfect, but now we believe in letting things fly when they are “good enough”.  In terms of spaces, this means creating places that are purposeful, but flexible enough to evolve as our community grows and makes its own mark of the place as it grows.

Building the hub together means slowing down. It means working with the quirks of the building (as well as our own) rather than fighting them. It means prioritizing the welfare of the people inside over a rigid construction and business timeline. We want to create a space where you don't feel like a guest, but rather like you’re at home. From lighting and signage to the simple act of providing a cup of tea, every choice is aimed at one thing: letting our community know they matter. If you have an idea to make this space better, let us know, be part of making it happen. It’s your place, too.

This might be events you could run, layouts you prefer, things we could have on hand to help people make better use of and get more from the space.  We meet with members monthly to share food, and chat through this type of thing and we’re always open to fresh faces getting involved.
