I’m Hannah Robinson, an illustrator who is both a studio and collective member of Good Things. I’m writing this blog post as I’m very excited to be introducing you to the ‘10 Years of Good Things Collective’ live portrait zine.
What is this live portrait zine I hear you ask? Well, it’s a visual documentation of a moment in time, showcasing just some of the amazing people that have helped to shape Good Things Collective over the past 10 years.
I was invited along to Good Things Collective’s Summer Open House last year to celebrate their 10th birthday and the signing of a then 10-year lease for the House of Cooperation. During this open house event, I drew and chatted to collective members, learning what the past 10 years of Good Things has meant to them. Plus also hearing what their hopes and dreams for the next decade of the collective are. These conversations and live portraits have now all been compiled into this very zine! (download below...)

This live portrait gig came at an excellent time for me - just before I moved my studio into the House of Cooperation. Therefore, it was a lovely introduction into the space and to just some of the people that make up Good Things.
Becoming a studio and collective member has been a great decision for my art practice, because it means that I’m constantly surrounded by a lovely group of creatives. And not just visual artists, creatives from a variety of different backgrounds. Being around such a great bunch of different people is definitely inspiring in many ways. In addition to of course all of the events that Good Things Collective puts on from our member meals to Slow Fridays, which being based here means that I have no excuse but to go when my schedule is free.
As mentioned in the very first sentence, I am in fact an illustrator. I work across a range of projects from commissions to live illustration, but my ultimate dream is to write and illustrate a children’s picture book. I love to work with mixed media, using a good variety of pens, pencils and paints to translate my thoughts and ideas down onto paper. In an ever increasingly digital world, I do make an effort to try and use as many traditional art supplies as possible, as I find that it encourages more creative play in my work.

I use my studio as a space to run my day to day art business. I went full-time with my business last year as an illustrator, so to have a dedicated space to it really helps me to focus on what is important for the next steps of my art career. I hope to be doing what I do forever and ever so this is really just the beginning. Above my desk I have a range of my favourite prints, mostly from other illustrators to help spark my next creative idea.
