Studio Kids

Studio Kids is a monthly session to explore, support and cultivate parent-child collaborative creative practice at Good Things Collective.

Sessions run on the last Sunday of each month - keep an eye out on our “What’s on” page and our social media for details.

Making art which includes children as a form of practice is vital for many reasons. Creative experiences in childhood enable children and young people to feel curious, confident and expressive. Adult wellbeing is closely linked with opportunities to play and explore, which we often grow out of. Art making which can include children’s contributions might help artist-parents maintain creative careers more sustainably. Intergenerational creative play encourages children to be more imaginative and inventive.

Studio Kids responds to these needs, offering intergenerational creative experiences. Each session is led by a different artist, exploring different artforms, materials and approaches.

Who’s it for?

Studio Kids is aimed at everyone with children of any age, and you don’t need to be a parent to come along! Feel free to bring your grandchildren, godchildren, nieces and nephews.

We want to make our sessions relevant and meaningful, whether it’s for people who want to come along and play, or artists with an ongoing creative practice and everyone in between.

What happens at Studio Kids?

Every session is led by a different artist or creative, offering a different activity or process. We’ve explored self-portraiture, garment making and sowing seeds. We also plan to take some trips together, visiting outdoor spaces, or relevant exhibitions and venues.

We take an approach that emphasises openness, experimentation and playfulness. We do this by offering materials which can be used in lots of different ways, creating an environment which helps adults and children to explore their own ideas.

Ongoing Practice

As well as being a regular place to turn up, join in and have fun, we hope that Studio Kids nurtures a growing community of intergenerational creatives in Morecambe.

To do this, we’re interested in hearing from participants what we could do during sessions to support creativity involving children in the rest of the month. We’re interested in sharing processes and activities, and mentoring each other to embed creativity beyond the scope of Studio Kids.
