The Coop Hub

This is our campaign for a creative, community space in Morecambe.

We have already raised 650k of funding needed to make this happen working with our partners Lancaster City Council, West End Morecambe Big Local, Creative West End and significant project development support from Architectural Heritage Fund.

Over the years as we have made the best of what space has been available. We've consistently outgrown venues and put up with substandard, poorly insulated property in need of modernisation and better fit out. We've taken on insecure occupation of meanwhile spaces on temporary license arrangements in a part derelict church and currently a former Argos unit in a shopping center. These are important parts of our journey and creative practice enabling us to co-create our business model, develop our work, build relationships and support. We have learnt alot, we've dreamt and raised our aspirations and built our confidence.

With capital funds reopening we are working hard behind the scenes to bring in the rest of the funds and are aiming to begin building work at the end of 2022 - early 2023. RIBA stage 3 is complete with stage 4 in progress and planning permission approved. All our prep work has been co-created at a grassroots level and has strong support from local anchor institutions across Health, FE & HE orgs, LCC, Eden Learning, Coastal Revival Fund and strategic support from AHF, Locality & Power to Change.

In the first phase of development and opening we will support the growth of our new business model and develop our hub management platform app to support wide community engagement and wealth building offering:

  • 6 creative workspace units, 16 studios & 56 cap. co-working studios

  • 4 specialist areas (wood, textiles, print & digital)

  • 4 incubation pods for emerging arts & cultural projects

  • Meeting rooms / Project Spaces

  • Cafe and events space

  • Shop supporting enterprise tenants / studio members

  • Development of our Good Things Platform app - hub management, data collection, analysis & impact measurement
