Introducing Jewellers...

We'd like to give a warm welcome to Jewellers - the Arndale Centre's newest art space.

"Jewellers is a non-profit project aimed at supporting local creative practice through a programme of exhibitions, workshops, gatherings, events and talks. Split across two sites in the Arndale Centre, we add to a growing hub of creative culture in Morecambe's town centre which includes: Good Things Collective, AC gallery, Morecambe Heritage Centre, and Cupid Studios. Our focus is to inspire local people through local and international artists and thinkers and to support the development of Morecambe based projects through postgraduate-level support in the form of tutorials, talks, and workshops.

Jewellers supports a decentralisation of the arts from major cities, and a redistribution of funds and access to free arts education across the UK. We are interested in practices that might reflect the culture of the North West, particularly the unique energy of Morecambe Bay. We are primarily interested in low-cost practices — especially within a cost of living crisis and dramatic economic divide — and look to focus on supporting and developing finically and ecologically low-cost practices that are of, in and by people of the Morecambe Bay area.

Jewellers is triangulated between Iceland and Bet Fred, in the old Herbert Brown jewellers unit. Inside we have a cinema setup, where we host screenings, talks, workshops and gigs. Facing out into the Arndale centre, the original jewellers cabinets host a rotation of exhibitions by local artists. Jewellers 2 is a smaller unit near Timpsons, where we host digital screen-based artworks that are open during Arndale Centre opening hours. Jewellers is co-directed by Amy Dickson and Jamie Jenkinson."
