GTCxLICA

Mixed media notes from Art & Systems Neighbourhood Campus day created by Lorna Kelly

Starting in 2021 we have been testing, developing and piloting a series of collaborative art education exchanges between Morecambe based artists,  community members and the BA Fine Art programme at LICA (Lancaster Insitute of Contemporary Art), Lancaster University. These include;

Neighbourhood Campus Pilots

A series of formal and informal educational exchange days hosted on campus at LICA and at various artist studios and art spaces across Morecambe.  20 community members from across Morecambe's creative community visited LICA for 3 half day lectures, workshops and artist talks; and 30 students from the BA Fine Art programme visited morecambe for 2 x full day talks and workshops on themes of ‘collectivity’, 'entrepreneurial art practice' and ‘useful art’. Alongside shared meals and networking events programmed between LICA and GTC. These opportunities were made possible with funding from Lancaster University's Widening Participation Fund.

Neighbourhood Campus Internships 2022
Building on the Neighbourhood Campus Pilots we were able to secure x2 Neighbourhood Campus Fine Art Internships aiming better understand and nurture great creative partnerships between Fine Art students and graduates, local artists and the wider Morecambe community. These internships were part of a research programme which aims to find out what impact artists residencies at Good Things Collective have in Morecambe, and how this can help to build the relationship between GTC and LICA.

GTCxLICA Launchpad
With funding from Santander Bank and Creative West End we were able to pilot the GTCxLICA Launchpad as part of a programme with Lancaster University encouraging responsible and innovative enterprise. The participants, a mix of Lancaster fine art BA graduates and Good Things Collective members, get studio space, an art commission (majority of which their first), business support, and professional mentoring over the course of 12 months.
